Entitled Sister-in-law showed up unannounced and expected me to babysit for two days because i don't have children.

So this happened yesterday and I'm still annoyed. My husband's elder sister, who's a single mother of two (ages 6 and 3), suddenly showed up at

my house with her kids. No call, no message, nothing. She came in, sat down for a bit, then just went, “I'm traveling for a business trip, so

I'll leave the kids here for two days." I was honestly stunned. I told. her it was so sudden and improper, no prior information

stay with them. After all, you don't have kids and you work from home." I asked her if that was a sensible reason for just

dropping her kids off on me without asking first. She said, "It's just two days, why are you making it a big deal?"
  • 08
That line really got to me. Since when does working from home mean I'm automatically available to babysit two kids without notice?

I told her again that I can't, and she left looking offended.

OP Hottter ThanU Right? If only they knew how stressful remote work can be. I'm not just sipping coffee and watching Netflix >

Goddessviking86 She's definitely someone who I feel didn't think things through for herself because in all her planning she felt she could just drop an unexpected surprise on you but what she failed to acknowledge is your own schedule during weekdays, if she had reached out and talked to you that would've been ideal instead she decided to use the unfair warfare of emotional warfare to try to use emotions to try to guilt you into watching them but you saw through the ruse.

OP Hottter ThanU Yeah but she failed. i cant take that from her

Organic_Start_420 NTA your husband needs to have a chat with his sister. Also work from home It's working not just lying around and even if you were only relaxing home you aren't obligated to babysit her kids
  • 16
OP Hottter ThanU Exactly! I told my husband the same thing he really needs to set some boundaries with her because that was just too much.

Chronic Watcher 1456 I am childfree and it is crazy the amount of entitled parents roaming the streets. Implying my husband and I aren't a real family because we don't have kids. Implying my life is easy, despite being chronically ill, because I don't have kids. Coworkers annoyed that I don't want to cover extra every week because "Well, what do you have going on? You don't have kids." It's exhausting. It's not every parent. But the ones that are entitled can be pretty aggressive about it when t

OP Hottter ThanU its crazy and the annoying part is their audacity for me! like they make it look like its their right or compensation for having kids or as if its your tax for working from home

OZFOX42 The people who think that are the ones who don't actually do very much work or none at all.

ThiccGoblinEmpress Showing up unannounced and expecting free childcare just because you work from home is incredibly entitled. Working remotely doesn't mean you're sitting around doing nothing. She should've called ahead or arranged proper childcare like any responsible parent. It's one thing to ask for help, but showing up expecting it is something else entirely. I think she's projecting her frustration onto you because she knows she messed up. Don't feel bad for maintaining boundaries, people

Herandar You're supposed to tell her you like the kids, it's their mother you aren't a fan of.

drcharacter Because their lazy es would abuse working from home to no end. They would do the absolute bare minimum if anything, so they assume everyone else wouldn't do any work at home either.
